What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a debilitating condition that can affect many aspects of everyday life. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders are the most common mental health issue in the United states, affecting about 18% of the population, or about 40 million people. Anxiety disorders, though highly treatable, are often ignored instead of addressed; only an estimated 36.9% of those suffering ever receive treatment.
Anxiety falls into one of three categories:
- Panic Disorder – Affects approximately 6 million adults, with women twice as likely to be affected as men.
- Generalized Anxiety – Affects 6.8 million adults, with women twice as likely to be affected as men.
- Social Anxiety Disorder Disorder – Affects around 15 million adults, and is equally common among men and women.

Chiropractic Care Can Help Reduce Anxiety
Chiropractic care is a natural, medication-free path to health that primarily involves the spine, back, and neck, and the nervous system, which is all interconnected by the spinal cord. Interruptions in the spinal cord can have a significant effect on your mood, so if your symptoms of anxiety are accompanied by tension headaches and/or tension in the back of your neck, there may well be a link between the discomfort in your spinal cord, your nervous system, and your anxiety. At Community Chiropractic Acton, we would love to help you.
Chiropractic care has been successfully used by people suffering from many types of mental health conditions for almost a hundred years. Since chiropractic care boosts the health of your nervous system, it can provide a way to manage your anxiety symptoms without the harmful side effects of Benzodiazepines or SSRIs, since these side effects can sometimes be at least as bad, if not worse, than the anxiety symptoms alone. If you are experiencing anxiety, especially having had little or negative prior results with prescription or over-the-counter medications, chiropractic care would be an excellent option to consider.
The doctors at Community Chiropractic of Acton provide gentle and effective chiropractic care that can help reduce your stress levels and your anxiety, improving your emotional and psychological health. Our office is a relaxing, safe, and comforting environment, which is ideal for chiropractic care.
